House training a dog can be challenging for a dog owner but if you are concerned about your pet and your relationship with him then you should try to at least train him in terms of the proper places to urinate and to defecate. House training a dog can be a test of willpower for both your dog and you included. You have to be very patient and avoid shouting at your dog if he accidentally does his thing inside the home despite your earnest efforts to house train him.

Dog training can be frustrating to start with. If you aren’t completely sure how you should do it, it can often end in stress for both you and your dog! Luckily, by following some basic rules you can make training a lot easier for you and your beloved pet. Here are 5 beginner dog training tips to make your life a little less stressful!

Dogs behave in different manner in different circumstances, so it is now important to teach them properly. Dog Training trains the owner to understand the behavior of the dog, so that one can easily and effectively communicate with the dog, and also to the dog so the dog is able to behave properly and to understand the owners command and behave accordingly.

There are different ways how one can train his dog to be well behaved:

1. Hire a dog trainer: You can hire a proper dog trainer for training your dog. However the main thing to keep in mind is that the dog trainer must have a reputation for successful training. Try to talk at least to those which already hire them for the same. Also try to know that how long does the training last? It takes a while for a puppy to be fully trained as they need some time to mature. Does the dog trainer only work on one specific thing or do they cover it all? Do they do routine follow ups? Keep in mind price is going to be a factor in this option.

2.Take your puppy to school: Nowadays some pet stores offers the dog training classes to the dog owners. These classes are held once a twice in a week where they give the training to the dogs along with the important tips to the owner so to make their dog to behave in well mannered way.

3.Train your puppy yourself: Training your puppy by yourself can be very frustrating and yet very rewarding. It will definitely build up the bond you two shares. So as not to make mistakes, start off by reading up on the dog training tricks the experts use. Knowing the techniques to use will certainly cut down on the frustration factor, produce results quicker, and prevent dog training problems. You can find books, do online research or consult with someone who has trained dogs. The information is certainly available. However, a dog training course can save you time and possibly prevent you from making mistakes.

4.Choose A Dog Training Course: In choosing a course, you will have to factor in your budget, the amount of time you have, and the level of training you want. If you can afford it, you can find a qualified dog obedience school and put your dog through a thorough program.

Now to train a dog is not a simple task since you are trying to control the inherent nature of an animal. For this reason there is the need of a lot of perseverance and also patience.

I believe positive training methods (i.e. encouraging and praising your dog for what it does right rather than punishing for what it does wrong) work best and help to build a healthy dog-owner relationship.

Indoor Dog House – Prices Of Indoor Doghouses

November 30th, 2008

Most pet owners would think of outdoor dog houses when it comes to buying a house for your dog. However, there are also many varieties of indoor doghouses on the market. Most people would wonder why there is a need for indoor dog houses since your dog is inside the house.

Some pet owners like to use it as a way to control the dog´s movements while others want their dog to have a home but not outdoors especially for smaller sized dogs.

There are many types of indoor doghouses on the market using various types of materials such as soft indoor dog house. These look like gym bags with padding and have excellent ventilation. The padding gives your dog extra comfort.

How to Keep Chickens

November 29th, 2008

With many people reverting back to the good old days of growing your own veg and keeping your own chickens for eggs, some folks are asking me “what types of chickens can I keep that my children will be safe with and will make good pets”

It is a sure fact that some breeds of hen are not suitable for keeping as both pets and for eggs however, there is one breed that is both full of charater and will keep you in eggs throughout the year.

The Rhode Island Red:

Rhode Island Reds are a good breed to choose if you want to keep a small flock of dual-purpose chickens. They are great for both egg production and also as pets.

The average hen lays large brown eggs and is also very freiendly so long as they are given teh chance to get to know you. Once you have them used to you they will let you stroke them, pick them up and generally fuss over them - in fact they love to have their feathers stroked.

The hens lay an average of about 260 eggs per year which is an ample amount to keep you in a small business if you have more than a couple of them. The Cock is NOT suitable - only hens as the Cock will be aggressive and noisy (and obviously does not lay eggs).

The Rhode Island Red is one of the most popular breeds but it is also one of the more recently developed breeds as well. It got its name from being bred and developed in Rhode Island in the 1830s but it was also developed in Massachusetts. It’s breeding is a combination of Brown Leghorns, Cochins and Malays. It gets it’s deep rich red color from the Malay influence in its breeding.

Doggy, Doggy, Need a New Home

November 29th, 2008

Your family finally agrees it’s time to bring home a new friend.  Your family pet of fifteen years is sorrowfully missed and you can’t imagine ever finding brown eyes like his again.  Visiting the pet stores, reading the pets for sale ads, and talking to friends, you wonder; what’s the best way to add a new member to your family?

Pet adoption  is an option pet lovers should definitely consider.  Although it may not be for some, it’s a true gift.  Not just for you to be able to find that special pet, but for little ‘Rover’ whose only crime was being too furry.  Pets like Rover are looking for a family who will just love him as he is.  Even if he’s not perfect, they want the love of someone willing enough to teach them what is best for the family.  With love and gratitude, your little adopted friend will want to do all he can to make you happy.

Seeing the row of big brown eyes in a shelter is enough to break your heart.  You would love to take them all, but your place can only hold one.  Knowing that by helping just one little friend find love and comfort is a great place to start.

Pet adoption centers and shelters typically let you know which pets are good with kids or other pets and which ones wouldn’t be. They will give you a small history of what the pet has been through.  Giving hope to a dog can be all he needs to be the greatest friend you’ll ever have!

Often you will see a display of mixed breeds and mutts, but they can be incredibly fun.  They usually have their own look, and like many dogs, just want to be loved.  Better yet, they just want to love you and make you happy.  Whether you adopt a young pup from a shelter or whether you decide to give an older fellow a place to grow old is up to you, but the choice to love one of these dogs can be more rewarding than you can imagine.

Don’t count them out.  A dog in a shelter isn’t there because he was bad so much as he just had a bad start or someone who did love them simply couldn’t care for him the way he needed.  Give this friend a chance, it may be the greatest decision you’ll make for you and your family.

Using a head collar for dog training

November 28th, 2008

Using a head collar for dog training

The head collar has become an increasingly well-liked dog training tool during the past 2 years. The advantage of this design is that even if the dog is somehow in a position to squirm out of the muzzle, it remains wearing a collar. This safety feature is vital, particularly during coaching outside or in novel scenarios. Coaching a dog with a head collar has some advantages over coaching with a conventional or coaching collar. For one thing, head collars are typically simpler to use for beginning dog trainers than are coaching collars. Head collars are also quite successful at stopping dogs from pulling, or controlling and retraining dogs that have a tendency to pull.

Head collars can be fantastic for controlling dogs that are really robust, or for working with a dog in an area that contains plenty of distractions. For example, head collars are superb for when your dog is on and expedition, or in an area where there’ll be other dogs and other distractions. Even though a head collar could be a great tool, it shouldn’t be used as a replacement for effective dog coaching. Although head collars have plenty of advantages , they have some distinct drawbacks too.

If your dog exhibits this behavior, the best technique is to keep it moving until it learns to accept the collar.

A good alternative is to have the dog sit by pulling up on the dog’s head. Another drawback of the head collar is the reaction that many people have to it. Many of us think that a head collar is a muzzle, and react to the dog as if it may bite. Whilst this isn’t always a flaw of the head collar, many of us do find it worrying. To conclude, coaching with a head collar is very similar to training with a coaching collar or any other equipment. The eventual goal of dog training with a head collar should be to have the dog behave as well with a regular collar as it does with the specialized head collar.

Adopting Wildlife

November 28th, 2008

Okay, so adopting an elephant doesn’t seem practical.  Where would you put it?  Oh, and what would the neighbours say?  I am sure the poop and scoop signs will be posted prominently on your lawn in no time!  Your love for wildlife is wonderful, but how can you make a difference for an elephant you can’t bring home?

A wonderful concept for you to consider is sponsorship and adoption programs that are run through various wild-life organizations.  Local reserves and zoos also have these in place.

Caring for an exotic pet requires know how and money.  Not to mention it’s not good for the animal to be kept in such unnatural settings.

With the rise of poaching and the fear of extinction it becomes a prominent need to find ways in which we can help these beautiful and great creatures.  Whether you passion is for elephants, polar bears, panda bears, whales, or apes, all of these great creatures and more are in need of some much desired help.

Loss of habitat has become a growing concern for many species as well.  In fact the statistics of some of earths most beautiful creatures is shocking and heart breaking.  Not being able to keep an elephant or tiger in your basement, does not mean you can’t help.  You can!

The WWF (World Wildlife Fund or www.wwf.ca ) is one organization that is designed to make a difference.  It’s not for everyone to go out there and help hands on, it’s not an easy task and can be significantly dangerous, and they do that for you.  What they need from you is help in saving these animals on a financial basis.  Your help is critical and your financial donations will be handled with care.  Whether you wish to give a one time donation or become a monthly sponsor is entirely up to you.  It’s a great place to start in the conservation of these endangered animals.

Some organizations like the WWF will allow you to adopt a specific animal; for instance a Bengal Tiger. You will be given the name of a tiger in captivity who is being cared for, you will receive a photograph, and information about this tiger specifically and any additional information regarding this creature.  Like many animals, the Bengal Tiger needs people like you to help save them from extinction.

The next time you feel the tug on your heart to do something for these creatures, check your options on how you can adopt a wildlife animal and sponsor a cause that works daily to save these special creatures from extinction.  For just a few dollars a month, you can make a huge difference to one of these animals and you can be proud knowing you are doing something we need more people to do.

Effective dog training

November 26th, 2008

Effective dog training

Knowing how dogs developed, and how dogs have interaction with one another, is crucial to knowing how to properly train your dog to be a devoted, steadfast companion. The first dogs were doubtless orphaned wolf puppies adopted by early humans.

In return for these valued behaviors, the humans probably supplied their new companions with foods, protection and shelter. When organizing a dog coaching program, it is vital to know that dogs are pack animals.

In wild dog societies, packs are formed, and each member of the pack quickly learns their place in the pecking order.

Apart from in the event of death or injury to the alpha dog, the hierarchy never changes once it’s been established. The lower dogs know not to test the alpha dog, and the alpha dog understand his place as leader of the pack. To correctly train your dog and gain its respect, it’s important for you to become the alpha dog. That is because a dog that sees its owner as a superior leader will follow the commands the owner gives without query. Getting the status of the dog is the most vital step to proper dog coaching, and it’ll form the foundation of all successive coaching. The explanations for training a dog correctly are many particularly in today’s world. A well behaved, obedient dog is a joy to be around, both for the owner and their family, and for folks hereabouts at large. In addition, seeing a well behaved dog sets folk’s mind at ease, particularly with breeds of dog thought to be perilous,eg Dobermans, rottweilers and pit bulls. A lot of dogs exhibit neglected behaviors as a consequence of stress in the animal’s life, and its incapacity to deal with that stress.

The goal of a good dog training program is to permit the dog to put up with larger levels of stress without changing into a problem animal. One feature that humans and dogs do share, however, is the necessity to form close social groups and powerful bonds inside those social groups.

Reward training your dog

November 26th, 2008

Reward training your dog

It is likely that reward coaching for dogs has been around so long as there have been dogs to coach. However, what is known as reward coaching today has only enjoyed is noteworthy recognition for the past ten or fifteen years. However, the best path to coaching any individual dog is usually a mixture of leash / collar coaching and reward coaching. In addition, a coaching strategy that works completely for one dog might be fully unfit for another, and vice versa. Most reward training uses some variety of food reward, or a reward that is related to getting food. Reward coaching is employed in all forms of dog training, including police work and army applications. Most smell detection, tracking and police dogs are trained using some type of reward coaching.

Reward coaching is also a particularly acceptable way to coach a lot of basic obedience commands. Reward coaching frequently incorporates the employment of a lure to get the dog into the position desired by the coach.

The attraction is used to get the dog to perform the specified behavior on their own and of his or her very own free will.

It makes for a large amount of sense to get the dog to perform the desired behavior without any physical intervention on the part of the handler. Getting the dog to perform a behavior without being touched is vital. After the dog has performed the required behavior, it is given a reward, also called a positive reinforcement.

Treats are typically used as reinforcers, but praise,eg “good dog” or a pat on the head, can also be effective rewards.

Many people when dog training make the error of only coaching the dog within the house or back yard, and only when the handler is there. It’s also vital to coach the dog to concentrate on the handler at all times. Having the eye of the dog means having control of the dog. Reward coaching is terribly effective at getting the status and the eye of the dog when used correctly.

Dog training - Leash/collar training

November 26th, 2008

Dog training - Leash/collar training

There are a few different styles of dog training, and finding the one that works best for you is critical for making a dog that’s a gifted, steadfast and true member of the family.

All successful systems of dog training work to brace the connection between dog and handler, and the bedrock of any successful coaching program is getting the respect of the dog.

Happily , dogs are wired by nature to find leaders, and to follow the direction of those leaders. The sort of coaching that works best will change from dog to dog, and from reproduce to breed. You, as the owner of the dog, know better than any one which style of dog coaching will work best, so it’s important to work with the coach you opt to achieve your goal of a prepared, obedient and friendly dog.

Leash and collar training is the simplest way to do many kinds of dog coaching, especially in scenarios where the dog must have a high level of trustworthiness.

After the dog has demonstrated that it understands the command, the leash is then used to fix the dog if it disobeys, or when it makes a mistake.

The leash is the main form of controlling and communicating with the dog in leash and collar coaching. In order for the dog to be totally trained, the handler must demonstrate the power to place the dog into a posture or position she does not need to take. This manipulation is most simply and safely done using the main tool of leash and collar coaching the leash. It’s important for each would be dog coach to realise that the leash is just a tool. Whilst the leash is a crucial tool in this form of dog training, it is vital for the dog tutor to be ready to ultimately achieve the same results using whatever tools are at hand. Even if the sole tools at hand are the owner’s body and talent, the dog should be willing to obey.
