Horse Joint Pain Relief Provided at the Dr. Ava Frick’s Animal Fitness Center

August 31st, 2009

I never really thought about horse joint pain before. I always assumed horses, like my horse Semper, didn’t feel pain or get sick. So when my gorgeous stallion started showing signs of arthritis, I had no clue what to do. Fortunately I came across the Animal Fitness Center website of Dr. Ava Frick. I found out that all animals can get sick just like humans. If I hadn’t brought my equine friend to the doctor on time, his joint problems would have exacerbated and I would really not forgive myself for being so insensitive to his pain.Animal Pain Relief

Ava Frick explained that horse joint pain is actually pretty common once they become over 15 years in age. Just like us, their tendons can wear down and ache in cold weather. Since I got Semper when I was 14 I didn’t think about his aging causing pain, swelling, stiffness and swelling in his joints. I had not noticed that he was in so much pain and had been suffering for quite some time already. I was still putting him through hours of practice and even rode him everyday around our farm.

Equine joint pain is usually treated with medications and drugs. However, I know for a fact that pain medication can also be harmful to the internal organs of horses. I really wanted to make sure Semper’s care was as natural and holistic as possible. Good thing Dr. Ava Frick uses holistic treatments instead of common medicines. I love that the Animal Fitness Center uses holistic methods of therapy to relieve animal arthritis and pain. They are not only concerned about eradicating pain using gadgets and devices, but they are also concerned of the proper nutrition needed to hasten the recuperation of the problems and diseases of the animals in their clinic. Besides, I felt that genuine care and affection was given to my equine pet during his stay at the Animal Fitness Clinic.

I really appreciate the animal chiropractic care that Dr. Ava Frick was able to provide for my horse. Treating an animals condition in this matter targets the actual problem and doesn’t just mask the symptoms. Although medications can ease the horse joint pain felt by Semper, these will not really target to root cause of the problem, they will simply manage the symptoms. Massage therapy combined with PST, Pulsed Signal Therapy, was able to not only treat his pain but also helped the function of his problem areas. With in a few weeks of care at Ava Frick’s Animal Fitness Center, Semper showed great improvement.Animal Chiropractic

Learn German Today…

August 30th, 2009

The German language is one of the most widely spoken languages in Europe; as well as millions of other people who speak German globally. German is a second language taught in most educational institutions worldwide and is one of the twenty three official languages. English and French are the other two widely spoken languages. Now let’s look at how do most people learn German.

Besides learning German as your second language at schools and other institutions, there are numerous very good courses available; on CD and DVD, as well as books. These methods are the most common when learning German.

There are many private teachers offering classes after working hours; and in my opinion this is an excellent way to learn because you are interacting in direct German conversation with your colleagues as well as your teacher.

If you browse online you will find many interactive German courses available. Beginners; intermediate and advanced courses are offered. There are sites that you can log into and actually have conversations with German speaking people; who assist you with conversation and grammar.

There are complete courses which come with CD’s and books to help you pronounce the words correctly. If you are fortunate in speaking Dutch or Afrikaans then learning the German language

is far easier than if you were Spanish speaking. Besides learning online you can order many of the courses offered and the companies will deliver or ship the courses to you.

Many people learn German using interactive audio courses; which illustrate step by step grammar from beginners to an advanced stage. No matter if you are new to the language and have never spoken German, most of these courses will have you speaking some German within a week.

The younger generations are volunteering to stay with German families and learn the language by interacting daily with the family, who don’t speak the student’s mother tongue. This is probably one of the best and quickest methods of learning any foreign language. And this is how many people learn to speak German. How Can You Tell If You Have Gingivitis?

August 30th, 2009

ozone water

Gingivitis can lead to gum disease and worse if you don’t get it taken care of. So what is it and how will you be able to tell if you have it or not?

If you notice when you brush or floss that your gums start to bleed, you may have the onset of gingivitis or worse. Other signs you will notice are swelling of the gums, red gums, puffiness, and even tender gums. These are all signs that can point towards your having gingivitis. Sometimes, an oral irrigator may be of help.

removal of plaque is very important to combat gum disease. As the plaque continues to build up after a while it will become hard. At that point it will be called either tartar or calculus. That’s when you will start to run into more problems. The tartar will harbor ever greater amounts of bacteria that will begin to destroy your gums.

This process will lead to your gums bleeding and even pulling away from your teeth. It’s the next step after gingivitis and it is called periodontitis. As the gums continue to weaken, there will be pockets that will form near the base of your teeth.

At those pockets bacteria will build up which will lead to even more destruction of your gum tissue. It may continue to spread and even get to the point of causing more health problems besides the loss of teeth. Ozone water has been used for many purposes, perhaps it can be of some assistance to you.

Make sure that you see your dentist as soon as you notice any signs of gingivitis. One is bleeding of your gums when you are brushing or flossing your teeth. If your gums start looking too reddish, no longer the healthy pink look that gums should have, you may have a problem.

Next, learn about the cost effective things you can do at home to help stop gum disease and prevent it from coming back again.

Pets and Apartments – Here are Some Pointers

August 30th, 2009

If you have a pet and are intending to buy or rent an apartment, do so only after you are sure that the apartment permits animals. This is to ensure that you can happily move into the apartment with your pet with no problems.

Don’t leave your pet unattended on apartment grounds if you are permitted to keep pets in the apartment. No matter if you have a cat or a dog, make sure you are with it when it has to go out.Never leave pets unattended outdoors.

Cats and dogs left to stray tend to get into fights and in some situations, may also die if left outside alone. If left alone outside, your pet may end up carted off to the pound. This means you have to make sure that your pet is with you at all time, whether your inside or outside the apartment.

Similarly, pets should never be left unattended on balconies or patios. The balcony is a place where dogs will be dogs, and up to all sorts of mischief.

Make sure your pet is on a leash when you take it outside. You can thus stop your pet from running out unexpectedly, prevent complications and prevent the pet from running in front of cars.

Make sure you have complete control of your dog while on a leash. This means you should ensure it does not approach children too quickly, jump on them or try to bit them. It  is thus not so easy to keep pets in an apartment. You have to be aware of where it is at all times. Moreover, respect your neighbors and give them the calm and quiet they expect from their apartment. This ensures that they will both respect your pets and have nothing against their staying in your apartment. You will not hear any complaints against your pets if you your neighbours respect their presence.

Health Benefits of Pet Ownership

August 30th, 2009

Having a pet or pets can be beneficial to your health. We will discuss a few of the interesting aspects of so-called pet therapy in this article.

Evidence has been established that blood pressure levels can be lowered through observing the movements of fish in an aquarium. A study was conducted on 92 patients with coronary problems. It found that the patients who had pets were much more likely to live until the next year than those who did not. A percentage of 28 patients not owning a pet died within the span of a year, in comparison to a minute 6% of those who owned pets.

Animals are now widely used when dealing with AIDS and cancer patients, they are also used on elderly and the mentally challenged. Whereas communicating with humans can be complicated, interacting with an animal is simplistic, allowing us to be ourselves. It can be a liberating experience which brings out our nurturing instinct.

An interesting observation was made of patients just before their submission to oral surgery. They watched an aquarium filled with tropical fish for a short time, and their behavior, blood pressure, and muscle tension were noted afterward. The swimming fish served to make the patients more relaxed and gave them lower blood pressure, comparable to people who are hypnotized before surgery.

Were you aware of that?

Studies show you can reduce your blood pressure by merely petting a dog. Pets in nursing homes can improve people’s mood and improve social interactions. For those suffering from stress, pets can be a genuine blessing. According to a study, people who own dogs don’t need nearly as much medical care for stress than dogless people with stress.

Of course, proper care is necessary to ensure the pet has a healthy life, and products like Frontline flea and tick medication make certain the pet and owner have a happy relationship, go to frontline plus for dogs page to find out more

Hence, what sort of pet should one attain?

No one type of pet produces a greater relaxation effect than another. The options could include a cat, a dog, or even a goldfish. You have to be compatible with the pet; if it stresses you out too much, it’s doing more harm than good.

It’s still unclear as to the exact reasons why having a pet can be so beneficial to your health. Some believe that interaction through physical contact, particularly with a dog or cat, provides an extremely comforting effect. Pet owners also feel responsible for the pets and this nurturing effect can be very powerful.

Chicken Coop Designs For a Hatchling Business

August 30th, 2009

Some backyard chicken farmers are only interested in a few chickens to provide fresh eggs. Others get into the hobby so much that they start raising their own chicks and selling the egg laying chickens. No matter what your favorite part of chicken farming is, chicken coop designs are different for older chickens that for a hatchling operation in a few details.

For hatchlings, you need to have space for incubation equipment and need added protection from predators. In addition, you need enough space so the chicks don’t become crowded, because they can spreads illness easily. You will need to consider chicken coop designs that provide separated rooms for the baby chicks versus the older chicks, that way you won’t disturb the other chicks during the hatching phase.

Older chicks will need a protected run about the time they are six to eight weeks old. Once they have developed their full feathers, you can let them outside. If they still have down feathers, you should wait to let them outdoors. They will love getting out in the chicken run, so make sure the chicken coop designs you look at provide for a protected entry for the run. Of course, you can always make adaptations to the chicken coop designs, once you have settled on a favorite one.

You will need to consider different factors for the nesting chicken coop. Nesting boxes and adult chicken coops will need chicken coop designs that accommodate the special needs of both. For grown chickens, you need to allow for square footage of 4 feet per chicken. If you have 10 chickens, you will need 40 square feet. Some chicken coop designs have a second floor loft for the nesting boxes, with the adult chickens down below. Whatever chicken coop designs you consider, make sure you have enough space, or build separate chicken coops.

Chicken coop designs vary in the number of chickens they can hold, the location they can be built on and the ease of cleaning. You need to balance these three factors, when considering the different chicken coop designs. If you look on the Internet, there are many chicken coop designs for hatchlings, older chicks, nesting chickens and adult, laying populations.

When it comes to hatchlings, you need to be sure that warmth and light are important considerations in your chicken coop designs. Food and water stations are important, too and the incubation equipment needs space to be moved around. Insulation is crucial in keeping the hatchlings and older chicks from catching cold or freezing to death.

Of course, predator protection should be sturdy, because predators tend to go after baby chicks more than full grown chickens. In fact, consider predators such as rats and large snakes that can burrow into a hatchling house and eat eggs or baby chicks. Be sure that the older chick run uses chicken coop designs that allow for a roofed run, since hawks and eagles can easily snatch them from above, if you haven’t taken this into consideration.

Hatchling chickens can be a lot of fun and a profitable operation if you choose the proper chicken coop designs to comfortably house the different stages of chick growth to adult chicken stage.

Determining If You Are Ready for A Puppy

August 30th, 2009

You gave into the begging of your children and got that puppy, and now you have a puppy to train, and things to purchase. Several items you need and several you may just want. You need food supplies, a meal and soak dish, a dog collar, vaccinations and grooming equipment. What you might moreover want are toys, snacks for training, a dog training collar ( separate from his regular collar ), a dog bed, some chew items ( preferable not shaped like shoes ), and pooper ladle type phenomenon. Most of these are easily understood but there are a few items that need a crumb more guide.

While you were trying to choose whether to give into your kids and get a dog you thought about the costs. They were a bit overwhelming when you see the finished costs. You thought possibly you could avoid certain expenses to make it all work, which you can, you just need to be careful.

A dog collar can be a very Cheap object and you can choose from a manmade fabric dog collar all the way to a very fancy, wholly decorated leather dog collar, with stops for a metal dog collar and a standard fabric dog collar. Whichever you choose make sure that you get the right size for your dog and expect to replace it with another as he grows or buy the expandable dog collar. Whilst a dog training collar is listed in the not mandatory items, many people don’t think of them optional. You do need to be capable to train your dog, or you will rue the decision to get a puppy every day of his life.

Chew toys sound like excellent, and they are excellent for your dog, but like the dog collar you can easily get into some bad ideas. Chew toys shaped like items you DO NOT want your dog to chew is going to create a problem. He, quite seriously, may not be able to distinguish the difference between the toy and chew toy shoes, from your shoes. Thus, he may not understand why he’s being told off.

The last is delicate and I can think of no easy way to say it appart from you got to scoop up the dog poop. There are choices here and some dependant on your current living situation. There are bags you can use to scoop on a walk, they are much more biodegradable than the grocery store bags, with no inconvenient holes for spill through. Great for walks with quite low prices. They have a tool like a rake / shovel that allows you to get the poop off the grass. Like I said, its choices, if you don’t have a yard, you sure don’t need the rake shovel tool, but then the bags are not a choice. Most cities have strict laws about not cleaning up after your puppy.

Achy Joints in Your Dog Could Mean Arthritis

August 30th, 2009

Dogs can suffer from arthritis just like humans. Normally, the bones near their joints are covered with protective cartilage. When they walk, run, or move in any way, the cartilage on the ends of the bones rub against each other. There is no discomfort because there are no nerves present in the material. The protective covering slowly dissipates over time. When that happens, the underlying bones are exposed to one another; when your pooch moves, they rub together and cause pain.

Often referred to as degenerative joint disease (DJD), arthritis is a debilitating condition in canines. In this article, we'll take a look at the factors that exacerbate the problem. We’ll also explain how owners can manage the issue.

Contributing Factors And Symptoms

Cartilage that protects bones from rubbing against each other is slowly worn away as canines age. This is known as primary DJD and affects nearly all breeds. Many breeds are also susceptible to hip and elbow dysplasia, genetic disorders that impact ball and socket joints. Both disorders can lead to osteoarthritis, which is commonly called secondary DJD. Other factors that can lead to canine arthritis include obesity, problems related to the metabolism, and inflammation caused by fractures.

The first sign of DJD is usually an uneven gait; dogs will shift the majority of their weight onto whichever legs are not arthritic. They will also have difficulty getting up if they have been lying down for a prolonged period. If the problem has progressed to an advanced stage, a canine might lose his appetite and become reclusive.

How To Manage The Problem

Degenerative joint disease is progressive, so discomfort tends to increase over time. That said, owners can help their dogs cope with the pain through a number of treatment strategies. Dysplasia of the hips can often be treated with a hip replacement, though a veterinarian may avoid recommending it depending on the health of your dog. Vitamins, supplements, and medications that help reduce the inflammation may also be prescribed.

Owners can also pursue a more holistic form of treatment. For example, weight management is critical for canines suffering from DJD since extra weight can place undue stress on their joints. In fact, veterinarians will often recommend waiting to perform surgery or prescribe medications if a dog is severely overweight.

Daily low-impact exercise will help control weight gain. Activities such as swimming or walking will give your pooch the opportunity to use his limbs and maintain his muscles without exacerbating his arthritis. Also, climbing and descending stairs, and jumping into and out of vehicles can worsen his DJD; a ramp can significantly reduce the impact on his joints.

Ask your veterinarian for treatment options of your dog does devleop arthritis. Whether through surgery, medications, exercise, or a combination of all three, you can help improve your canine’s quality of life.

5 Things to Consider Before You Adopt - Hairless Cats As Allergy Solution

August 29th, 2009

Funny Cats

Urinary problems in cats can be a painful and recurring problem. Cats with weakened immune systems, such as those that are already ill or elderly, are at a greater risk for urinary issues. Although there are other causes, bacteria is often to blame for bladder problems in cats. Animals that are overweight or that have long hair tend to be less able to clean the feces from around their genitals and this can predispose them to bladder infections. In many cases, these problems in cats can be greatly reduced, or avoided entirely with preventative care.

Of course, little persuasion should be needed as to the prudence of taking care in the sun. It may surprise some to learn that animals too can be just as susceptible to the sun’s rays, and family pets that spend a lot of time outdoors can be at a far greater risk of developing skin cancer than those confined to an indoor environment.

For example, dogs with short white coats and light coloured skin such as Dalmatians, Bull Terriers, Whippets and Greyhounds are most at risk from developing sun-induced disorders later in life.

More Water

You should also consider your cat’s water source. Tap water that has chemicals in it that may not be appealing to your cat and so it may not drink as much as it needs. This can cause urine to thicken and slow down. The cat won’t eliminate all of the urine from the bladder and this will encourage bacterial growth. Make sure that your cat has access to clean, pure water at all times. You can’t make him drink it but making it available when he wants it may help prevent urinary problems.

Powerful Herbal Extracts

You can also give your cat a natural remedy that targets urinary tract infections in animals. These remedies contain herbal extracts like Cantharis and Uva Ursi that restore the proper pH to your cat’s bladder so it can heal. These gentle remedies don’t have the harsh side effects of prescription medications and steroids. Since they are mild, they can also be used as a daily routine to prevent urinary problems in cats.

Skin cancer is the most common type of cancer in dogs, and the second most common type of cancer in cats. But if it’s detected early enough then treatment is a genuine option, though it’s likely to incur considerable fees from the vet - which is why it’s important to have adequate pet insurance in place.

And as is the case when shopping for anything in the internet age, it’s best requesting several pet insurance quotes, as prices can vary significantly between providers - plus there are often significant discounts available when purchasing a pet insurance policy online
